The second generation product, Lilium-SPOT®2,
is now available

2021.8.19

Lilium Otsuka will launch Lilium-SPOT®2, an improved version of Lilium-SPOT®, a healthcare appliance (non-medical device) that allows users to easily check the amount of urine in the bladder, on August 24, 2021.

Lilium-SPOT®2 allows users to check the level of urine accumulation on a scale by applying ultrasonic waves to the position of the bladder and is useful for people who have trouble with the timing of toilet guidance, people who are not clear about their urge to urinate, or people who frequently complain about their urge to urinate, to check the level of urine accumulation and whether urine has been expelled after urination.

Lilium Otsuka developed the Lilium-SPOT® to contribute to the nursing care field by utilizing its expertise in the development and manufacture of medical equipment using ultrasound. Based on the results of customer surveys and other feedback, we have made improvements to the Lilium-SPOT®, focusing on “improved operability,” and developed the Lilium-SPOT®2.

Improvement points

  • ①Improved ultrasonic sensitivity by improving the structure of the probe.

The structure of the probe has been reviewed and the shape has been changed to ensure that the fulcrum is operated to capture the urine volume.

  • ②The scale display has been subdivided into 10 levels instead of 5 levels.

The threshold is set in approximately 50 mL increments, and a 10-step scale display is used to express the amount in 100 mL increments on the white display and in 50 mL increments on the black display.

  • ③Urine volume can be measured immediately after startup.

“Find more urine” operation improves the reproducibility of the measurement and allows you to know the approximate amount of urine in the bladder at this point.

①Difference in the shape of the bottom of the probe part (viewed from the side)

The structure of the probe has been reviewed and the shape has been changed to ensure that the fulcrum is operated to capture the urine volume.

②Improvement of the resolution of the scale display

The threshold is set in approximately 50 mL increments, and a 10-step scale display is used to express the amount in 100 mL increments on the white display and in 50 mL increments on the black display.

③Indicator that displays the urine volume immediately after startup

“Find more urine” operation improves the reproducibility of the measurement and allows you to know the approximate amount of urine in the bladder at this point.

Toilet guidance in nursing care settings

In the nursing care field in Japan, which has entered a super-aged society, the importance of excretion independence is being recognized and the need for excretory care is increasing, as evidenced by the revision of the additional fee for excretion support in the 2021 revision of nursing care fees.
Among them, a method called “prompted voiding,” in which medical personnel and caregivers create a motivation for urination and encourage urination, has been included in the guidelines1) and has been shown to be effective in urination management. In Japan, several clinical studies have reported the results of ultrasound-assisted prompted voiding care for managing urinary incontinence in nursing homes.2)-4) In addition, there is one report of toilet guidance using Lilium-SPOT® for day care service users who complain of frequent urination in nursing homes.5)
